The Blue Dragon 810H2S-P is a portable industrial hydrogen sulfide analyzer that uses lead-acetate sensing tape and optical detection for selective H₂S measurement. It is designed for field verification, temporary monitoring, process troubleshooting, commissioning, and sheltered laboratory or pilot-unit work.

A pressure-fed gas sample passes through the analyzer flow-control and membrane-humidification system before contacting a fresh section of sensing tape. The optical detector measures the tape response and displays the hydrogen sulfide concentration locally, with optional analogue, alarm, and digital communication functions depending on the delivered configuration.

The portable model is intended for general-purpose non-hazardous areas. It is not a personal safety monitor, and the analyzer vent must discharge safely to atmosphere without backpressure.

How it measures

Measurement Principle

A controlled gas sample is conditioned by a 5% acetic-acid membrane humidifier and directed across lead-acetate sensing tape in the detector block. Hydrogen sulfide darkens the treated tape, and the optical measurement system converts the tape response into a concentration reading. The tape advances automatically to provide a fresh measurement area according to the configured interval.

Sample Handling

Stable performance requires a clean representative gas sample at controlled pressure and flow.

The standard manual describes a pressure-fed sample. Direct ambient-air or unpressurized sampling requires an approved pump arrangement.

Area classification

The portable configuration is for general-purpose non-hazardous locations. It must not be represented as an explosion-proof or hazardous-area process analyzer.

Display representation

Screen wording, units, decimal places, and menu availability may vary with the delivered firmware and installed options.

Measurement role

Alarm, Status & Diagnostic Matrix

Portable H₂S monitoring combines local concentration and diagnostic messages with optional alarm, analogue, serial, battery, pump, and data functions selected for the delivered analyzer.

Message distinction: IN USE, CAL COMPLETE, ONLINE, and RESET are documented operating or calibration prompts; they are not process alarms. LOW LED and CAL FAIL are diagnostic messages requiring corrective action.

Project Setpoint means the limit is selected for the ordered application. Recommended severity is generic website guidance; the site alarm philosophy is final.

High H₂S concentration

Process Severity: Critical
Trigger / Basis
Measured H₂S reaches the configured Project Setpoint for an optional concentration alarm.
Instrument Response
The local display continues to show H₂S; an optional alarm output operates only when installed and configured.
Operator Response
Follow the site H₂S gas-safety response, verify the sample and range, and move to a safe location or isolate the source as the procedure requires.
Reset & Ownership
Alarm relay, latching, reset, and any plant action are order and site specific. The operator or receiving system owns the response.

Signal invalid or overrange

Measurement Quality Severity: Critical
Trigger / Basis
The optical response or calculated concentration is outside the valid configured range.
Instrument Response
The displayed result and available diagnostic status indicate that the value must not be used as a valid measurement.
Operator Response
Confirm the ordered range, sample concentration, flow, pressure, tape condition, humidification, and optical condition.
Reset & Ownership
Analyzer diagnostic owned; external alarming exists only when the matching optional output is installed and mapped.

Sensing tape low or service due

Maintenance Severity: Advisory
Trigger / Basis
Remaining tape or the site replacement interval indicates that sensing-tape service is required.
Instrument Response
The low-tape function or local inspection identifies the maintenance condition.
Operator Response
Install approved tape, route it correctly, confirm take-up, press RESET, and verify approximately 1/8–1/4 inch tape advance.

LOW LED

Analyzer Severity: Warning

The optical LED or detector reference is below the acceptable operating condition.

Use clean white tape, stop sample flow, close the pressure block, inspect and clean the optical path, and perform the documented LED calibration.

Analyzer owned; clear only after a successful LED calibration and valid optical check.

CAL FAIL

The calibration or LED-calibration sequence does not meet its acceptance condition.
Instrument Response
The analyzer displays CAL FAIL and does not establish a successful calibration.

Sample pressure, flow, or vent abnormal

Sample System Severity: Warning
Trigger / Basis
The gas supply is not near the documented operating basis of approximately 9 psig and 0.3 SCFH, or the atmospheric vent is restricted.
Instrument Response
No universal internal message is assumed unless optional monitoring is installed; the reading can become slow, unstable, or invalid.
Operator Response
Correct the regulator and flowmeter setting, check filters and tubing, and restore an unrestricted atmospheric-pressure vent.
Reset & Ownership
Operator or project sample-system owned. Optional pump or electronic-flow functions follow the delivered configuration.

Humidifier condition requires service

Maintenance Severity: Advisory
Trigger / Basis
Humidifier level, solution condition, contamination, or carryover is outside the maintenance requirement.

No universal remote alarm is assumed; the condition is normally identified by inspection or measurement performance.

Tape advance or drive fault

Power or battery unavailable

The installed AC, DC, or optional battery supply cannot maintain operation.
