How it measures

Measurement Principle

A temperature-controlled condensation mirror is monitored automatically by a laser-based interferometric system and can also be observed manually through the optical visualization system. Side and vertical illumination help distinguish water and hydrocarbon condensates, while the mirror temperature at condensation is registered as the corresponding dew point or condensation temperature.

Project Delivery

Project Integration & Support Scope

Blue Dragon reviews the measurement objective, interfaces, documentation, commissioning, and lifecycle requirements as part of project configuration. The scope below identifies the principal items to confirm before order placement.

Measurement Objective
Portable automatic and manual measurement of water dew point and hydrocarbon condensation temperature for field verification, commissioning, troubleshooting, comparison, and metrology support.
Signal Outputs
Results are available locally and can be transferred through RS-485 Modbus RTU or infrared. The required data-export method, record format, comparison report, and retention procedure are defined for the field task.
Data Integration
Use the instrument as a portable measurement and verification platform. Where records are transferred to a laptop, service tool, database, or maintenance system, define the connection method, file ownership, tag identity, pressure basis, and record-retention requirements.
Alarms & Diagnostics
The instrument provides local operation and automatic diagnostic functions. The field procedure should define invalid-measurement handling, repeat criteria, mirror-cleanliness checks, pressure and flow acceptance, battery status, and comparison limits.
Documentation
The field package may include the manufacturer operating manual, product sheet, hazardous-area certificates, calibration or verification records, pressure-kit documentation, accessory list, field worksheet, and comparison report as ordered.
Commissioning Support
Support can include accessory and pressure-kit verification, leak and flow checks, mirror and optical inspection, supplemental-cooling checks, automatic and manual measurements, comparison with an installed hygrometer, and operator training.
Lifecycle Support
Lifecycle support covers mirror and optical maintenance, battery care, hoses, fittings, filters, pressure-control accessories, verification, metrological service coordination, spare parts, troubleshooting, and technical assistance through Blue Dragon Technology.
Operational Visibility

Status & Diagnostic Matrix

HYGROVISION-BL is a portable field and comparator instrument. Its matrix therefore emphasizes valid condensation identification, mirror and sample condition, pressure and cooling readiness, battery status, data transfer, and comparison acceptance rather than plant relay alarms.

Project Setpoint means the limit is selected for the ordered application. Recommended severity is generic website guidance; the site alarm philosophy is final.

Measurement invalid or unstable

Measurement Quality Severity: Warning
Trigger / Basis
The automatic system cannot establish a stable accepted water or hydrocarbon condensation event.
Instrument Response
The current result is not accepted as a valid field measurement.
Operator Response
Allow stabilization, check sample flow and pressure, mirror condition, cooling, gas composition, and repeat the automatic and manual observation as required.
Reset & Ownership
Operator and field procedure owned. Accept only after the defined repeat and stability criteria are satisfied.

Condensate identification uncertain

Measurement Quality Severity: Warning
Trigger / Basis
Automatic or visual evidence does not clearly distinguish water condensation from hydrocarbon condensation.
Instrument Response
The reported event requires manual optical confirmation and must not be assigned to the wrong measurand.
Operator Response
Use the dedicated illumination modes, repeat the observation, confirm pressure and composition, and record uncertainty in the field worksheet.
Reset & Ownership
Operator or metrology procedure owned. No result is accepted until the condensate type is resolved.

Comparator deviation outside acceptance

Quality Control Severity: Warning
Trigger / Basis
The difference between HYGROVISION-BL and the installed hygrometer or approved reference exceeds the task acceptance limit.
Instrument Response
The comparison is recorded as failed or inconclusive; it does not by itself prove which instrument is incorrect.
Operator Response
Confirm common pressure basis, sample point, stabilization, repeatability, mirror condition, flow, cooling, and traceability before adjustment.
Reset & Ownership
Metrology or quality-system owned. Disposition and reset follow the approved comparison procedure.

Mirror or optical path contaminated

Maintenance Severity: Advisory
Trigger / Basis
Visual inspection, unstable response, or failed comparison indicates contamination of the mirror or optical path.
Instrument Response
Automatic detection and manual visualization become unreliable.
Operator Response
Isolate and depressurize safely, clean the mirror and optical path using the approved method, then repeat a reference or comparison check.
Reset & Ownership
Operator maintenance owned. Return to service requires clear optics and acceptable verification.

Sample pressure or flow outside acceptance

Sample System Severity: Warning
Trigger / Basis
Pressure exceeds the ordered kit or task limit, or gas flow is outside 0.2–2.0 Nl/min.
Instrument Response
The measurement may be invalid and the high-pressure field task is not safe to continue.
Operator Response
Stop the test safely, verify rated fittings and hoses, correct regulation and flow, leak-check, and restore controlled venting.
Reset & Ownership
Operator and field procedure owned. Pressure configuration is limited to the ordered 160 bar or 230 bar arrangement.

Supplemental cooling insufficient

Utility Severity: Warning
Trigger / Basis
The task requires measurement below -30 °C but the supplemental cooling arrangement cannot achieve the required mirror depression.
Instrument Response
The lower-range measurement cannot be completed reliably.
Operator Response
Check the cooling accessory, ambient condition, heat rejection, connections, power, and the 70 °C maximum dew-point-depression limit.
Reset & Ownership
Operator and accessory-system owned. Resume after stable cooling and a successful check.

Battery low or unavailable

Utility Severity: Warning
Trigger / Basis
The internal battery cannot sustain the field task or external 8.4–27 VDC power is unavailable.
Instrument Response
The instrument warns of limited power or stops measurement when power is exhausted.
Operator Response
Save the record, use the approved charger or external source, inspect battery and connectors, and verify operation after restart.
Reset & Ownership
Operator owned. Interrupted measurements must be repeated according to the field procedure.

Instrument diagnostic fault

Analyzer Severity: Critical
Trigger / Basis
The optical, temperature-control, pressure, electronic, or automatic measurement system reports a fault or cannot initialize.
Instrument Response
Automatic measurement is unavailable or invalid; manual use is permitted only when the supplied procedure explicitly allows it.
Operator Response
Record the diagnostic, stop unsafe work, perform only approved external checks, and contact authorized service if the condition persists.
Reset & Ownership
Instrument owned. Return to service requires restored diagnostic status and successful verification.

Data transfer or record failure

Data System Severity: Advisory
Trigger / Basis
RS-485 Modbus RTU, infrared transfer, storage, or the comparison record is incomplete.
Instrument Response
The local result may exist, but the external or retained record is not complete.
Operator Response
Protect the local record, check storage and interface settings, cable or infrared alignment, receiving software, and repeat the controlled transfer.
Reset & Ownership
Operator or metrology data-system owned. Do not release an incomplete comparison record.

Power loss

Utility Severity: Warning
Trigger / Basis
Battery and approved external power are both unavailable during a measurement.
Instrument Response
The current cycle stops and its result is incomplete.
Operator Response
Secure and depressurize the sample connection as required, restore approved power, restart, stabilize, and repeat the measurement.
Reset & Ownership
Operator owned. Any interrupted result is rejected and repeated under the field procedure.
