BDT-GT

BDT-GT Gasket-Mount Surface Thermocouples

Compact gasket-mount thermocouples for direct surface-temperature measurement on machinery, engines, housings, rotating equipment, and industrial assets.

Brand: Blue Dragon Technology Manufactured by: MESIT, Italy Supply & support: Blue Dragon Technology
Product Overview

Purpose-built measurement, clearly presented.

The BDT-GT is a compact gasket-mount surface thermocouple designed for installation against machinery, engines, housings, flanges, and other industrial equipment surfaces. The sensor may be attached through a stud welded to the monitored surface or secured using a suitable nut-and-bolt arrangement.

The complete gasket sensing area acts as the measuring junction, providing direct thermal contact with the monitored surface. Thermocouple type, gasket geometry, lead construction, lead length, insulation, termination, environmental protection, and operating range are selected for the application.

Distinctive Capabilities

  • Bolted or stud-mounted surface-temperature measurement
  • Compact installation on machinery and industrial equipment
  • Direct thermal contact with the monitored surface
  • Custom gasket geometry and mounting-hole dimensions
  • Flexible lead-wire or sheathed lead construction according to service conditions

How it measures

Measurement Principle

The thermocouple measuring junction is integrated with or thermally coupled to the gasket sensing area. When the gasket is mechanically secured against the monitored equipment surface, two dissimilar thermocouple conductors generate a thermoelectric voltage corresponding to the local surface temperature. Measurement performance depends on the thermal contact between the gasket sensing area and the surface, the mounting arrangement, thermocouple construction, surrounding temperature, lead routing, and installation condition.

Sensor Construction

  • Project EngineeredGasket outside diameter, mounting-hole diameter, sensing construction, thermocouple type, lead insulation, lead length, protection, and termination are selected for the installation.
  • Application DependentFlexible cable, protected lead, connector, terminal block, or junction-box arrangements may be specified.
  • Project EngineeredThe complete sensor configuration must be compatible with the equipment surface, fastener, surrounding temperature, vibration, and maintenance access.

Materials & Junction Design

  • StandardNo extracted sample is required; the gasket sensing area is mounted directly against the monitored equipment surface.
  • Project EngineeredThe mounting-hole size, gasket contact area, surface finish, fastener arrangement, and available installation space are reviewed before manufacture.
  • Application DependentSurface coatings, uneven contact, contamination, air gaps, vibration, and external heat sources can affect the measured temperature.

Mounting & Installation

  • StandardThe sensor is mechanically secured using a welded stud or a suitable nut-and-bolt arrangement.
  • Project EngineeredMounting dimensions and lead exit orientation are coordinated with the monitored equipment.
  • Application DependentFastener torque and installation method must follow the equipment manufacturer's mechanical requirements.
  • StandardThe passive thermocouple sensor requires no local operating power; any transmitter or signal conditioner has separate utility requirements.

Signal & Termination

  • Application DependentThe sensor may be connected directly to a compatible thermocouple input or through a project-selected temperature transmitter.
  • Project EngineeredThermocouple type, polarity, extension cable, cold-junction compensation, grounding, shielding, and termination must be coordinated with the monitoring system.
  • Application DependentAlarms, shutdown functions, condition-monitoring logic, and communication outputs are provided by the connected plant instrumentation rather than by the passive sensor itself.

Calibration & Quality

  • Application DependentThermocouple type, tolerance class, calibration range, certificates, and traceability requirements are defined at quotation.
  • StandardFinal inspection should verify gasket dimensions, mounting-hole dimensions, lead length, polarity, continuity, insulation condition, and termination.
  • Project EngineeredCalibration should reflect the intended operating range and the requirements of the plant quality or maintenance system.

Maintenance & Replacement

  • StandardPeriodic inspection should check gasket contact, fastener security, lead condition, abrasion, insulation damage, terminal connections, and signal stability.
  • Application DependentInspection frequency is determined by operating temperature, vibration, contamination, movement, and equipment criticality.
  • Project EngineeredReplacement sensors should preserve the approved gasket geometry, thermocouple type, lead route, and installation position.

Process & Application Considerations

  • StandardThe sensing gasket must not be described or used as a pressure-retaining or process-sealing gasket unless specifically engineered and documented for that function.
  • Application DependentInstallation must not compromise the structural, fastening, alignment, or sealing function of the associated equipment joint.
  • Application DependentHot surfaces, rotating machinery, vibration, electrical equipment, and restricted maintenance access must be considered during installation.
  • Project EngineeredHazardous-area transmitters, junction boxes, connectors, or accessories require the appropriate project-specific certification.
